SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) -- You'll find a variety of books scattered through my various gift guides including a wide selection of Star Wars-related titles to tie in with the release of "The Rise of Skywalker" and the gorgeous "Marvel: The Golden Age 1939-1949" in the Marvel section. However, as someone who enjoys turning the pages of a book with a classic narrative, I had to give book lovers a little room of their own.
- If you're a book junkie, there's a good chance that you've discovered The Folio Society, a British based publisher that prints beautiful illustrated editions of classic fiction and non-fiction releases (their "A Game of Thrones" is nothing short of stunning). New for winter is Roger Lancelyn Green's collection of magical Egyptian tales retold in a children-friendly collection "Tales of Ancient Egypt"
- Charles Portis's classic adventure about a fourteen-year-old-girl who hires a bounty hunter to avenge her father's murder in "True Grit."
- Gaston Leroux's "The Phantom of the Opera" with an introduction from the National Theatre's Simon Callow.
- Lewis Carroll's magically strange "Alice in Wonderland" is beautifully illustrated by Charles van Sandwyk (who also work on The Folio Society's "The Wind in the Willows" and "How to See Fairies").
- Out of Print Clothing offers a variety of T-shirt for men, women and children as well as hats, socks, totes, enamel pins, journals and more featuring artwork inspired by famous editions of books and librarian-friendly slogans.
- "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was originally released in 2000. This year Scholastic released an illustrated version of the novel with artwork by Jim Kay.
- "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: The Journey: Behind the Scenes of the Award-Winning Stage Production" is a behind-the-scenes look at the stage production of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." Even a self-confessed theatre snob like myself found the play to be a bewitching experience with eye-opening effects that are as innovative as they are convincing. If you've been fortunate enough to see the play in London, New York or Melbourne, you'll absolutely want to relive the experience with this book.
- Out of Print Clothing has a fantastic selection of Harry Potter items including shirts, socks, pouches featuring the classic artwork from all seven books and Hermione Granger approved slogans.
- Earlier this year Funko introduced its Funkoverse, a collection of tabletop games featuring characters from the Harry Potter (other sets include DC and Rick and Morty characters) It's a little more complicated than your traditional tabletop, but those who have played and round-based game will quickly catch on.
- The Folio Society's beautiful edition of the Margery Williams classic "The Velveteen Rabbit" features original illustrations from William Nicholson (who designed the set for the original stage production of "Peter Pan" in 1904).
- Of course there is more to Scholastic than the Wizarding World. They are also the publishers behind numerous beloved series. For your holiday gifting you'll want to consider Raina Telgemeier's memoirs "Smile, Sisters, and Guts: The Box Set," Dav Pilkey's crime-fighting dog series "Dog Man: The Supa Epic Collection" (which goes well with Pilkey's Captain Underpants series) and a series of graphic novels inspired by Ann M. Martin's classic tales in "The Baby-Sitters Club: Graphix Box Set."
