Team USA Basketball opened training camp in Las Vegas on Monday in preparation for the upcoming FIBA world cup. The training camp is held at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center.

Team officials say it took more than 50 invitations to get 15 players on the roster and another 14 players on the "enhanced practice squad."

"It's all about just finding a niche, finding a role, being unselfish but also playing your game," said Team USA Guard Jaylen Brown. "So as it goes on, we got a lot of great guys in this gym right now, so I think we'll figure it out."

The two-time defending world cup champion Americans will have a young and different look this go-round. Six of the 15 players are age 24 or younger.

The players say they're excited for this opportunity and proud to wear a "USA" jersey to do battle on the court for head coach Gregg Popovich.

"We're playing for something greater than ourselves," said Team USA Guard Marcus Smart. "For us, we're going against guys who have been playing together for years and have already built that camaraderie. We're taking a group of guys that have probably never even played with one another and trying to tell them to go over there and play together and act like a team and become a team. To be able to do that and accomplish that, it's not easy but we know we can do it cause we all got great personalities and we're all basketball players who love to play the game."

The tournament begins in china at the end of August.
