Spring Valley High School Scholar Athletes 2017
Essence M. Booker – Ms. Booker has a 4.268 GPA, ranks 27th in her class and is currently enrolled in multiple AP classes and the AVID Program. She has been the captain on the varsity basketball team for three consecutive years. She has received all Conference, All Region, Nevada Super 7, Spring Valley Female Student Athlete of the Year, and various tournament MVP awards throughout her athletic career. Essence volunteers countless hours to the Special Olympics program when it hosts the Unified Basketball tournament annually at Spring Valley High School. She is enrolled in the Sports Leadership class and has been instrumental in developing the new curriculum with her coach, William Hemberger.
Octavio Montenegro-Muneton has been a member of the varsity soccer team for three years and was an integral part of the region championship in 2015. He carries a 4.140 GPA, is in the top 10% of his class, and is enrolled in four AP classes and the AVID program. He volunteers regularly at the public library helping children improve their reading skills and has accumulated nearly 100 hours of community service. Octavio thanks his older brother, Aldo, for building his interest in soccer as he competed with Aldo in the backyard growing up as a child. Octavio is already applying to UNLV for political science and pre-law.
